Compensate CO2 emissions for your camping trip
What exactly is CO2?
Carbon dioxide or CO2 is a gas that is naturally present in the air. This traps the sun's radiation on earth so that we are nice and warm, which is why it is called a greenhouse gas. Without CO2, the earth would be far too cold to live, but human activities have increased the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere extremely over the last 150 years. Burning fossil fuels is the biggest cause of this. Global warming is already causing major problems. So something must be done to stop this process. We think it is important to contribute to this as a company and also want to inspire others to do so. Through a combination of innovative techniques, we try to reduce CO2 emissions at the campsite. In addition, we capture CO2 by planting trees in food forests in our own region.
Planting trees
A important benefit is that trees, and thus our food forests, store CO2. Trees and bushes filter CO2 from the air and retain it in wood, fruits and leaves. On average, a tree stores about 20 kg of C02 per year.
What can you do to contribute?
Of course there are a lot of things you can do, both at the campsite and at home to reduce CO2 emissions. But a very concrete step you can take with us from 2024 is to rent one or more trees in our food forest. With this you compensate the emissions of your trip by car or camper from home to the campsite. Here's how it works: use a route planner to calculate how many kilometers you need to drive there and back to the campsite. Per 100 km travel with a camper or car with caravan you emit about 20 kg. CO2. A tree stores an average of 20kg of CO2 per year. So if you have to drive 400 kilometers, to compensate your emissions you can rent 4 trees for that year. The cost for 1 tree per year is €5.00. You can also choose to select fewer or more trees, you are free to do so. It is of course not mandatory. You can directly add the number of trees of your choice while booking via Search and Book. They will be added to your invoice. If you forget, or you didn't notice, you can always tell us about it on the spot. This can be done up to the moment of departure, just at the reception.
